چکیده

We investigated the sorption of pentachlorophenol (PCP) to a surfactant-modified clay and the solubility of PCP as a function of pH and ionic strength. Pentachlorophenol is a hydrophobic ionizable organic compound; therefore, it can exist as either a protonated or adeprotonated species. The objectives of this study were to determine differences in the sorption and solubility of the two species and to model the sorption as a function of pH. We developed a model that described the sorption across the experimental pH range (4-8.5). The model represented the sorption of the deprotonated species by a Langmuir-type isotherm and the sorption of the protonated species by a linear isotherm. Between pH 4 and pH8.5, the sorptiondecreases by three times and the solubility increases by 3 orders of magnitude as the dominant aqueous species changes from the protonated to the deprotonated form.

حذف بور از محلول‌های آبی به‌وسیله‌ی کانی زئولیت اصلاح‌شده با هگزادسی‌تری‌متیل‌آمونیوم (HDTMA)

Removal of boron from aqueous environments (soil and water) is difficult, because it is present as B(OH)3 and B(OH)4- species. This research was done to study the sorption of boron by HDTMA-modified zeolite. The sorption of B on modified zeolite was studied as a function of pH (B concentration: 1 and 10 mg L-1) in the range of 6-9.5, and as a function of ionic strength (0.03 and 0.06 M Ca(NO3)2...

Removal of methylene blue from aqueous solutions using modified clay

Introduction: Discharging of industrial colored wastewaters especially into aqueous environments can cause adverse effects on aquatic life due to their toxic natures. In this study, montmorillonite modified by hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (HDTMA-Mt) was used for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB). Materials and Methods: The influence of surfactant loading rate, contact time, pH, adso...

The study of an azo dye removal from liquid medium by modified clay

In this batch study, montmorillonite was modified by a cationic surfactant [hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTMA-MMT)] and used as sorbent to remove bromocresol green (BCG) from aqueous solutions. The effect of several factors such as surfactant loading rate onto the clay, contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, dye concentration, and ion strength were investigated on the sorption. The equilib...

Adsorption of sulfonamide antimicrobial agents to clay minerals.

Adsorption of three sulfonamide antimicrobials to clay minerals was investigated as a function of pH, ionic strength, and type of exchangeable cation. Sulfonamide antimicrobial adsorption exhibited pronounced pH dependence consistent with sorbate speciation and clay properties. Sulfonamide antimicrobials did not intercalate into montmorillonite, and surface charge density influenced sorption by...

Hexadecyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide-Modified Montmorillonite as a Low-Cost Sorbent for the Removal of Methyl Red from Liquid-Medium

In this study, montmorillonite (MMT) modified by a cationic surfactant (Hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide, HDTMA) was used as adsorbent to the removal of methyl red (MR) from aqueous solution. The effect of different parameters includes surfactant loading rate, contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, and initial MR content was investigated on the sorption. The sorption capacity was increased by i...
